Kalmat vs TradeZella: an honest comparison (2026)
Last updated: 29 September 2026 · by Kalmat Technologies
TradeZella is the established product, with a long integration list, automated backtesting and AI credits. Kalmat is newer and built around one idea: your rules are checked before an order reaches the broker. This trading journal comparison sets out the dated facts so you can decide whether Kalmat is the right TradeZella alternative.
The verdict
Pick TradeZella if you want the widest broker coverage, automated backtests, AI features and a large education community, and $35 to $99 a month suits you. Pick Kalmat if you trade MetaTrader 5 or a prop-firm evaluation and want a hard gate on every order, a Shadow Book that prices the trades your rules blocked, and presets for 19 prop firms, or if you trade on Indian brokers and need exact charges and a financial-year tax P&L. Kalmat is free while in beta; paid plans will be ₹599 and ₹1,499 a month, about $6 and $16.

Where TradeZella is stronger
Coverage. TradeZella lists "500+ broker and prop firm integrations" (tradezella.com/pricing, checked 29 September 2026). Kalmat covers the platforms in the table above and nothing more. If your broker is on their list and absent from ours, that settles it.
Backtesting. TradeZella's Pro plan includes 10 automated backtests a month, Ultra 100. Kalmat's What-If Simulator, Rule Finder and Exit Lab work only on your own trade history; there is no equivalent automated backtester.
Replay. Trade replay is a mature part of TradeZella, included on every plan except Essential. Kalmat's Trade Replay on real charts is younger.
AI. TradeZella allocates 500, 1,500 or 3,000 AI credits a month by plan. Kalmat's AI tools sit on Elite and are a smaller part of the product.
Community. TradeZella has a large education community. Kalmat's is smaller.
Maturity. Kalmat is newer, its cTrader live sync is still rolling out, and it has no native mobile app yet.
Where Kalmat is different
The order gate
TradeZella, by its own description, does not place orders or check rules before a trade. Kalmat does. Orders from Kalmat's Trade Ticket to MetaTrader 5 (connected through MetaApi with the master password) pass your own rules before the broker sees them: stop-loss required, risk capped against the account balance, tilt-lock after a losing streak, playbook hard rules, and on a prop account a refusal if the stop would breach the daily-loss or drawdown limit. cTrader: CSV import works today; live sync and orders are rolling out, pending Spotware's approval. Kalmat never places orders on Indian brokers.
The Shadow Book
Orders the gate blocks, and trades you log as skipped, go to the Shadow Book. Kalmat tracks each one against live price to its would-be outcome and totals the month, for example "rules saved you $1,240" (an illustration, not a user's result), so you see whether your rules earn their keep.
Prop-firm tools
Presets for 19 firms and 29 programmes, including FTMO, Topstep and Apex Trader Funding. The rule engine handles static, trailing and end-of-day trailing drawdown, daily-loss limits, consistency rules, minimum trading days and payout cycles. Breach Horizon shows live headroom before each limit, the exact price at which each open position would fail the account, and alerts at 50, 75 and 90% of the limit. The Payout Cockpit shows how much more profit today keeps the consistency rule intact. Always verify the rules on the firm's own site. More on the prop-firm journal page.
India
Zerodha syncs through Kite Connect with your own app key and a read-only tradebook; secrets are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM). Dhan, Upstox, Angel One and Fyers connect through their APIs with your own token; five more Indian brokers import by CSV. Kalmat works out the exact charges on each trade (STT, exchange transaction charges, SEBI fee, stamp duty, GST, brokerage) and builds an April-to-March tax P&L: intraday equity as speculative business income, delivery split into short-term and long-term capital gains, F&O as non-speculative business income, plus a Section 44AB turnover figure and a CA-ready Excel export. More on the Zerodha journal and tax P&L page. This is informational, not tax advice.
Price
Both bill monthly. TradeZella is Essential $35, Pro $59 and Ultra $99 a month, or $26, $44 and $74 a month billed annually at $315, $531 and $891, with no free plan listed (tradezella.com/pricing, checked 29 September 2026). Kalmat, once billing opens, is Journal ₹0, Pro ₹599 a month (about $6) and Elite ₹1,499 a month (about $16). Until then everything is free.
Switching
Kalmat imports TradeZella exports directly. Notes, tags, setup, mistakes, emotion and MAE/MFE survive the import. The same importer handles TraderSync, Tradervue, Edgewonk and TradesViz, and a manual column mapper covers any other spreadsheet. Export from TradeZella, upload the file, check the mapping. Kalmat is free while in beta, so running both side by side for a month costs nothing.
What we don't know
We checked TradeZella's pricing page on 29 September 2026 and nothing else. We do not know whether TradeZella supports specific Indian brokers such as Zerodha or Dhan, or whether it produces Indian tax reports; check their integrations list. The pricing page says nothing about a mobile app, so neither do we.
Frequently asked questions
Is Kalmat a TradeZella alternative for prop-firm traders?
Yes, if the prop side matters most. Kalmat has presets for 19 firms and 29 programmes, live headroom before the daily-loss and drawdown limits, and a gate that refuses MetaTrader 5 orders whose stop would breach the account. TradeZella, by its own statement, does not check rules before a trade. Verify every rule on your firm's own site.
Does Kalmat place orders on Zerodha, Dhan, Upstox, Angel One or Fyers?
No. Kalmat never places orders on Indian brokers. Indian broker connections feed the journal, the charges and the tax P&L. The order gate covers orders placed from Kalmat's own Trade Ticket on MetaTrader 5, with cTrader rolling out after Spotware's approval.
Can I move my TradeZella journal to Kalmat?
Yes. Export your trades from TradeZella and upload the file to Kalmat. Notes, tags, setup, mistakes, emotion and MAE/MFE are preserved. If a column does not match, the manual column mapper lets you assign it.
How much does Kalmat cost compared with TradeZella?
TradeZella is $35, $59 or $99 a month, or $26, $44 or $74 a month billed annually, with no free plan listed (tradezella.com/pricing, checked 29 September 2026). Kalmat is free while in beta; when billing opens, Journal stays ₹0, Pro is ₹599 a month (about $6) and Elite ₹1,499 (about $16).
